Essential elements for health - VII
Hi Friends,
We hope you liked our previous posts. Let us continue to gain our knowledge. Let us discuss about enzymes.
The necessity of Enzymes:
An enzyme is a catalyst. It is produced in the live cells. It works as a catalyst even in a very small amount. It means that it aids chemical changes in the body. Every process in the body depends on enzymes. One or more enzymes are necessary for each separate process occuring in the body. Each enzyme has a fixed field of action. Digestion and assimilation- the two important processes of the body- cant satisfactorily go through without enzymes.
Our body is unable to produce vitamins and minerals, but can produce enzymes. Every animal or vegetable cell can produce enzymes. Enzymes have not seen yet but their existence can be realized. It is believed that enzymes are one kind of proteins.
There are many kinds of enzymes. Life without enzymes is not possible. Enzymes help in digestion of food. They decompose food into its different constituents so that they can be assimilated into the body through the intestinal membranes. It is believed that enzymes reconstruct the cells, the glands and the muscles of the body through the digested food. They play a major role in the accumulation of glycogen in the liver and muscles. They help in discharging carbon dioxide from the lungs.
Some particular enzymes help to collect phosphorus in the bones. Certain enzymes produce iron compound in the red corpuscles, others help in the process of blood-coagulation when bleeding takes place. There are certain such enzymes which would attack on the toxins and other unwanted substances in the body. They convert them into urea or uric acid and finally remove them from the body.
Some enzymes can convert proteins into sugar or fats and others can convert fats into carbohydrates. In fact, all the functions of enzymes are not yet fully known. All natural edible substances posses enzymes. Heat destroys enzymes. Despite this we eat only cooked food and because of this we are deprived of enzymes. This is one of the reasons why we do not enjoy a long life.
Our body can produce enzymes to its requirement but for that its productive organs have to work hard. In youth this work is accomplished without much difficulty but as we advance in age, the capacity of the organs for doing work is diminished, the production of enzymes cannot copeup with the demand and consequently we become the victims of diseases.
Where is the necessity to tax different organs when sufficient enzymes for the metabolism in the body are easily available from raw food? Why should we not leave the work of reconstruction of the body to the enzymes contained in raw food? This is very purpose of nature. Scientific experiments have proved that the body cannot function properly without enzymes. When the body is not supplied with required quantity of enzymes, it begins to degenerate. Most of the dieticians are of the opinion that without enzymes man becomes prematurely old.
In old age the body cannot produce the required enzymes in sufficient quantities. Hence there is no other alternative except to replenish them from raw live food. It does not mean that children and young persons do not need raw food. The intake of raw food saves the enzyme producing organs from unnecessary burden and they (organs) remain active throughout the life.
In the digestive system of the human body, enzymes begin to function right from the mouth. The saliva secreted with the process of chewing food contains some enzymes. These enzymes begin thew work of digestion. If saliva and digestive juices of the stomach do not contain sufficient enzymes, food causes heaviness in the stomach. The fermentation of food causes gas and uneasiness.
We hope that you have gained knowledge about enzymes.
We will discuss more about enzymes in our next posts.
