Essential elements for health - VI

Potassium:

Potassium is necessary for the constitution of the cells and the muscles. It maintains the elasticity of the muscles. The daily potassium requirement of the body is about 4 grams.

Potassium is found in garlic, radish, pumpkin, tomatoes, spinach, guava, apple, milk and potatoes.

Sodium:

Sodium helps to produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It prevents the accumulation of calcium in the muscles. The daily sodium requirement of the body is approximately 2 grams. Its deficiency can lead to formation of stone in kidney.

Sodium is found in sufficient quantity in beet, carrot and French beans.

Iodine:

Iodine is a part of the secretion of the thyroid gland. Through this secretion, iodine helps in the process of metabolism. The deficiency of Iodine causes menstrual troubles. The thyroid gland does not function properly if the body lacks sufficient iodine. Iodine deficiency causes a disease called myxoedema. It causes obesity and the body becomes the victim of other disorders such as constipation, drowsiness and cardiac trouble. Scrofula is a main symptom of the deficiency of iodine.

Iodine is found in sufficient amount in leafy vegetables.

Magnesium:

Magnesium is essential for the health of the bones and the teeth. It maintains functioning capacity of the muscular system. The minimum quantity of magnesium required daily by the body is 0.6 grams.

Magnesium is available from guava, radish, spinach, potatoes, etc.

Chlorine:

Chlorine is essential for the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It purifies blood and prevents the joints from being stiff. The body needs 15.0 to 20.0 grams of chlorine daily.

Carrot, apricot, beet, French beans, cabbage, tomatoes, banana, dates, legume, etc., contain Chlorine.

Sulpher:

Sulpher is a blood purifying mineral. It activates the liver and brightens the skin. 0.3 grams of sulpher is the daily requirement of the body.

Sulpher is available from garlic, beet, radish, onion etc.

Manganese:

Manganese subsists particularly in the pancreases, the liver and the hair. It strengthens the muscles and increases the resistance power of the body against disease.

Manganese can be procured from garlic, beet, cabbage and guava.

Fluorine:

Fluorine is essential for the constitution of the bones and the teeth.

Copper:

Copper is necessary for the absorption of iron in the body.

Zinc:

Zinc is essential for the health of the prostate gland.

Cobalt:

Cobalt helps the production of heamoglobin.

Spinach, fenugreek and other leafy vegetables, guava, carrot beat, potatoes etc., contain Fluorine, Copper, Zinc and Cobalt.
