Food- Cooked and Uncooked
Eating cooked food is a very old tradition. This tradition of cooking food formed by our ancestors thousands of years ago is being continued bu us today too. No creature on the earth except man cooks its food. This may be the reason why creatures other than man dont become the victims of illness.
Food when cooked loses its life-giving nutrients and becomes lifeless. There is no possibility of getting energy, health or nourishment from this lifeless food. Life begets life. Food without life cannot bestow life. On the contrary, it makes the existing living lifeless.
The popular belief that food is required only for providing calories and energy to the body and keeping it active is firmly and deeply rooted. But those who believe in this are unaware of the fact that body continuously suffer wear and tear. Old tissue cells are being destroyed and to replace them new tissue cells are being generated. This process of reconstruction is necessary for life and it depends upon the nutrious quality of food which we consume. Our food must contain vitamins, minerals and enzymes to keep the reconstruction work going on. Moreover, protein, carbohydrates and fats contained in food require vitamins and enzymes for their assimilation. In the process of heating food, vitamins and enzymes contained in food are lost to a great extent.
If we take food solely on the basis of taste then it cant fulfil the requirements of the body. It is true that cooked food becomes soft and also delicious because of condiments, sweetening, etc. We are prone to eat such food more than required. This overeating causes indigestion followed by other diseases.
Cooked food not only loses its Vitamins and enzymes but also it undergoes may untoward changes. The protein and the carbohydrates in cooked food are not easily digestable. They are not easily absorbed in the intestines. Thus, cooked food becomes deficient in nutrients. It may perhaps give some nourishment to healthy persons, but for old and the sick it is useless.
Can we not minimize our love for cooked food and select raw or natural food in its place? Many persons fear that raw food causes heaviness, pain and gas in the abdomen, but thier fear is baseless. It has been proved through experiments that raw food is digested within three or four hours, whereas vegetable juices are digested within 25 to 30 minutes and are quickly assimilated into blood.
The above facts prove that raw food and live juices are most suited to the body and they stimulate the process of reconstrution. Precious nutrients are destroyed when food is cooked. But if grains are sprouted, there is considerable increase in their nutrients. In sprouted cereals there is a 600% increase in Vitamins 'A' and 'C' fro sprouted cereals. Sprouted grains and pulses are very useful for the speedy growth of a child and for increasing a nursing mother's milk.
It is indisputable fact that if we do away with traditional culture of cooked food and accept raw food as even half the quantity of our diet, our health with go on improving day by day.
